Already have a system? Start there.
Dog fence repair for every major brand.
When the transmitter starts beeping, the collar goes quiet, or your dog stops respecting the line, the cause is usually something ordinary that we can find and fix. We diagnose and repair underground dog-fence systems across Richmond and Central Virginia, regardless of who installed them.

What’s your system doing?
Eight dog fence problems we see every week.
Start with the symptom. Each one has a short list of likely causes and a familiar route to the fix.
Transmitter beeping
A steady beep or alarm light almost always means the transmitter has lost its loop. Usually that's a wire break, sometimes a loose connection or a power problem. It's the most common call we get, and we can diagnose it on the first visit. Until it's fixed, treat the yard as unfenced.
Wire break
Buried breaks don't heal, and digging on a hunch tears up the yard for nothing. We locate breaks with specialized signal equipment, open one small section of ground, and splice with waterproof connectors, usually on the same visit.
Collar not activating
A collar that stays silent at the boundary usually comes down to one of three things: a dead or dying battery, a fit or contact problem, or a failed receiver. We test all three in order, starting with the cheapest explanation.
Weak or inconsistent boundary
A line that works in some spots and not others typically points to a signal-width setting, a partial wire fault, or interference from nearby metal or electronics. We walk the loop and trace the actual cause rather than guessing at settings.
Lightning or surge damage
Virginia summer storms reach transmitters two ways: through the outlet and through the buried loop itself. We test what survived, replace only what didn't, and add surge protection so the next storm has less to work with.
Boundary expansion
New landscaping, a pool, an addition, or a dog who's earned more room: an existing loop can often be reshaped or extended instead of replaced. We design the change around what's already buried and working.
Adding another dog
Most systems accept additional receivers, so a second dog usually doesn't mean a second system. Each dog gets a collar with its own settings and its own proper introduction to the boundary.
Aging equipment
Older systems can often keep going with a targeted repair, and sometimes replacement genuinely is the better spend. We tell you which one we'd choose, with the price of each path, before any work begins. We don't push new equipment that isn't needed.
Some of these have their own pages: wire-break repair, boundary expansion, adding another dog, and existing-system upgrades.
All major brands
Invisible fence repair, no matter who installed it.
The company that installed your fence may have moved on, changed dealers, or stopped answering. Your system doesn’t care. Buried wire, transmitters, and receivers are all diagnosable hardware. We service equipment from these manufacturers:
All trademarks are the property of their respective owners. Superior Dog Fence is an independent, locally owned company and an authorized DogWatch® dealer: DogWatch equipment is the system we install, and it is also one of the brands we repair. Superior Dog Fence is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by Invisible Fence®, Dog Guard®, Pet Stop®, PetSafe® or SportDOG®, which are named only to describe equipment we repair and compare.
If a component is proprietary and genuinely can’t be serviced or matched, we say so up front. The options then are to repair what’s repairable, or to replace only the part that failed.
Transmitters, receivers, and buried wire fail in predictable ways. A brand logo doesn’t change the physics.
How a repair visit works
We diagnose it and price it before we fix it.
You find out what a repair costs before the work happens, not after. Most repairs happen on the same visit as the diagnosis.
- 1
Diagnose the actual fault
We test the system in order (power, transmitter, loop, collar) instead of assuming the most expensive cause. We locate wire faults with signal equipment rather than exploratory digging.
- 2
Clear price before any work
Once we know what's wrong, you get the price for the fix. Where repair versus replacement is a real question, you get both prices side by side. Nothing proceeds until you say so.
- 3
Fix it, usually the same visit
Wire splices, transmitter swaps, collar and battery fixes, and settings corrections are typically same-visit work. Before we leave, we retest the full boundary and walk you through what we found and what to watch for.

Start the diagnosis
Tell us what the transmitter is doing.
Whether it’s beeping, blinking, or dead silent, the transmitter usually tells the story. Describe the symptom, name the brand if you know it, and we’ll come back with the likely cause and the next step. You don’t need to give a street address to start.

Asked on the phone
What people ask us before booking a repair.
Can you repair an existing Invisible Fence® system?
Yes. We diagnose and repair systems from Invisible Fence®, Dog Guard®, DogWatch®, Pet Stop®, PetSafe®, SportDOG® and others, regardless of who installed them. Wire breaks, transmitter faults, and collar issues are all common, fixable problems.
What happens during a power outage?
The boundary is inactive while power is out, so treat the yard like an unfenced yard until it's restored. We'll explain backup options and what to watch for when power returns.
What happens if the wire breaks?
The transmitter alerts you (typically with a beep or indicator light) and the boundary stops correcting until the break is fixed. We locate breaks with specialized equipment and splice them with waterproof connectors, which is usually a same-visit repair.
