Superior Dog Fence started back in 2013, and since then I’ve had the privilege of helping thousands of families keep their dogs safe at home. My name is David Meade, and I decided to go independent because I genuinely love what I do and I care about the people and the dogs I get to work with.
My passion for this goes back to my childhood. I had asthma growing up, and I wasn’t able to have a dog because the fur would trigger attacks. When I was finally old enough and healthy enough to have one, I got a Bluetick Hound named Harley. I had wanted a dog my entire life, and he meant the world to me.
One day when I got home from school, I didn’t shut the door all the way. Harley slipped out, he did that a lot, and usually it took my whole family forever to track him down because he thought it was some kind of game. But that day wasn’t like the others. He ran into the road, a car hit him, and the driver never stopped. We rushed him to the vet, but there was nothing they could do. Losing him that way stuck with me. We didn’t know containment systems even existed back then, and even if we had, the dealer prices would’ve been way out of reach.
That experience is a big part of why I do what I do today. I want families to have an affordable, reliable way to keep their dogs safe, something I wish we had when I was a kid.
Being locally owned and independent gives me the freedom to offer great equipment at fair prices without the pressure or restrictions of a big franchise. Over the years, I’ve also developed my own training approach, which I call the Gentle Approach. It’s built around treating every dog like they’re unique, because they are. Most dogs are fully trained within 4–5 days, and their owners get the peace of mind they’ve been wanting.
